Starting on January 1, 2024, the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act becomes effective.

This Act mandates that all employers, regardless of size, provide their employees with a minimum of 40 hours of paid leave per year. Yes, that's right, all employers and all employees are covered under this Act.

The Act comes with very specific rules about how leave accrues, how it's tracked, how employees can request it, and what employers can require when employees request leave. It's imperative that you provide the legally required paid leave and have a well-documented policy in place to explain how it all works. Failure to comply could result in hefty fines and penalties.
